GREAT POND NEWS & EVENTS

As many are aware, there have been some confirmed cases of Measles in Penobscot County. Measles is a highly contagious viral disease; if one person has it, 90% of the people close to that person who are not immune will become infected. Symptoms of measles include:

  • Fever

  • Cough

  • Runny nose

  • Red, watery eyes

  • Tiny white spots inside the mouth on the inner lining of the cheek (Koplik spots)

  • Rash that spreads from the head down.

Individuals who develop symptoms should contact their health provider for instructions before going to the provider's office or hospital to help prevent further spread of infection.

AFVD Volunteers Needed!

To the residents of Great Pond, Aurora, and Amherst; We are making a plea for new members to join the fire department. Many of our experienced members are getting to be an age where they can't physically do the work required to fight fires. Help is also needed running the business department and they are looking for a bookkeeper and accountant.

The AVFD will pay for training as a fire fighter and for EMS licensing, as well as providing the personal protective equipment. There are many jobs that can make a tremendous difference as well that don't require special training or great physical strength, such as traffic control, equipment maintenance, inspection, cleaning the station, etc.

If you are looking for an opportunity to donate your time to help your friends, family, neighbors and community here is your chance!

If interested, please reach out to:
